Chupacabra caught on camera? 'Alien' presence in Texas leaves experts stumped
A chupacabra? A skin-walker? An alien? Nobody is too sure
A MYSTERIOUS creature has been branded a “chupacabra” and a “skin-walker” after its photo was captured by a trailcam – and experts are puzzled.
Michael “Dumas” Demel knew something was off when he checked his trailcam near Dubina, a rural community in the US state of Texas.
He said: “I have three different cameras at three different hunting areas – they catch coyote, deer, bobcats, rabbits, raccoons, foxes…
“I look at approximately 100 plus pics a day from the three cameras, but that was the only photo that it showed up on.
“My first reaction was something doesn’t look right, so I stopped on the picture to zoom in.
“My first instinct was that it was a monkey.”
Trying to identify the creature, Michael, from nearby Schulenburg, showed the photo around.
Some said it was an alien, or even a chupacabra – a notorious bloodsucking cryptid from American folklore.
Others said it was a skin-walker – described by the Navajo as a witch with the ability to disguise themselves as an animal.
Mr Demel, 49, said: “I showed it to neighbours, family and friends. I got everything from a skin-walker, a monkey, a chupacabra, an alien.
“You hear stories of chupacabra in south Texas areas.
“The craziest was a skin-walker – I had to look up what that even is.”

Unfortunately, experts are none the wiser.
Asked for a potential ID, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department drew a blank.
A spokesperson said: “I reached out to our mammologist and due to the quality of the image a positive identification of the animal is not possible.”
They separately told The Fayette County Record that it was “too small to be a white tail deer fawn”.
Michael, who works in construction equipment sales, said he’d had the camera up for 10 years and had “never” seen anything like it.
He even provided photos of deer photographed at the same location, to illustrate the difference.
“It's just out of the ordinary,” he said
“I've seen hundreds of thousands of game pictures over the years and spent my whole life in the woods hunting – and this was a first.”
The true identity of the creature remains a mystery.
